Tablet Statistics: 250 Million Consumer Media Tablets By 2017

One of our goals here at Statspotting is to not get lost in the millions, billions and trillions. That is one reason we try to “digest” numbers – for example, knowing that Macau is four times bigger than Las Vegas in terms of revenue – thats a useful way to digest the fact that Macau raked in $23.5 billion in revenue. We spotted this today:

“Shipments of consumer media tablets like the Apple iPad are expected to approach 250 million units in 2017, a report from In-Stat suggests. While analysts at In-Stat see tablet adoption growing rapidly over the next six years, even a number as large as 250 million is conservative when considering the estimates other firms have recently reported. IHS iSuppli, for example, increased its estimates earlier this week, suggesting tablet shipments will surpass 275 million units in 2015.”

How do we digest this number? Let us try this: by 2015, there will be a total of 2 billion plus PCs in the world. We have written about iPad stats and Smartphone stats before.
