54 Billion USD: Operators’ Loss By 2016 Due To ‘Smartphone Messaging’

We had always suspected that this was going to be a big number, for one reason: the the SMS market is HUGE – so we spotted some estimates coming in today – that due to the smartphone messaging apps cutting down the SMS revenue, operators would lose to the tune of 54 Billion USD by 2016 (Source) – To put the number in context, operators would have lost some 23 Billion USD by the end of 2012 due to ‘OTT’ (Over The Top) players.

Well it could the VOIP and phone calls war happening again, but we know this for sure – they named these players right. Over The Top, they are.
