Technology Salaries In The U.S. See The Biggest Year-Over-Year Leap Ever

“Average technology salaries in the U.S. saw the biggest year-over-year leap ever, up 7.7 percent to $96,370 annually, according to the annual salary survey by Dice, the leading careers site for technology professionals. Bonuses and contract rates also rose from 2014, and tech salaries in seven metro areas reached six-figures for the first time since the survey began more than a decade ago.

The wage hikes paint a picture of an overall solid environment for technology professionals with 62 percent earning higher salaries in 2015. Almost half of respondents reported a salary increase as a result of upward mobility at the same company, with 38 percent receiving a merit increase and 10 percent receiving an internal promotion. The second most common reason for a rise in salary was a result of the professional changing employers (23%).”

5.6 Million: Number of Job Openings In The US

“There were 5.6 million job openings in December, just shy of the all-time record of about 5.7 million set in July, according to Labor Department data published Tuesday.

$1,500 an Hour: Billing rates for partners at elite corporate law firms

“Partners at some of the nation’s top law firms are approaching—and, in a few cases, surpassing—that watershed billing rate, making the $1,000-an-hour legal fees that once seemed so steep look quaint by comparison.

Despite low inflation and weak demand for law firms’ services, rates at large corporate law firms have risen by 3% to 4% a year since the economic downturn, according to Citi Private Bank’s Law Firm Group.”

The wealth of the richest 62 has increased an astonishing 44 percent since 2010, to $1.76 trillion. Meanwhile, the wealth of the bottom half of the world dropped by 41 percent.”

Oil Price: Brent Crude Hits 11-Year Low

“Oil prices have fallen to levels not seen since 2004, surpassing the lows seen during the recession of 2008.
Brent crude sank to $36.05 a barrel – its weakest since July 2004 – before recovering slightly to $36.47.

A global oversupply has dramatically driven down the price of oil, with suppliers failing to reach agreements to address the glut.”
