Smart Home Services Would Be A $10.9 Billion Market By 2017

We spotted a number today that definitely made us think “Really?” – smart home services, also called the home automation market – which was just a $2 billion worldwide in 2012, would grow five fold, to more than $10.9 Billion by 2017 (Source)

What is fueling this rise? In large part, this would be due to the embrace of “smart home” services from the likes of AT&T, Comcast and Verizon. Huge growth in this area for the next five years.

Sony Playstation 4: 400 MUSD Revenue From Preorders Alone

We see such huge preorder revenue numbers once in a while – we spotted this stat today, that Sony has preorders for more than a million units of the Playtation 4 – at 399 USD, that works out to a revenue of 400 Million USD (Source)

From a magnitude standpoint, weekend sales of iPhones and some Samsung Phones could easily beat these numbers, but these are definitely huge numbers for Sony.

San Francisco Buys Every Fifth Electric Vehicle Sold In The US

That is not a surprise, but it is a stat worth noting. We had spotted some EV stats in the past – we spotted this stat today, that more than 50 percent of EV sales in the US is from 5 cities (Source) and that SFO alone contributes to about 20 percent of all EV sales in the US.

Cost Of Raising A Kid To 18 Years – USD 217,000

We have written about the high student debts in the US and the cost of Child education before – but here is the aggregate number EXCLUDING college – USD 217,000 (Source)

Windows Phone Statistics: 77 Percent Surge In Shipments Since Last Year

When you have a small base, you can pull off astronomical growth rates. Windows phone is a recent example -we spotted this stat today, that Windows Phone shipments are actually up some 77 percent since last year (Source)

Tesla Statistics: Now 8 Percent Of The U.S. Luxury Car Market

We had spotted some stats on Tesla before – we spotted a stat today that was truly surprising – that in a short period of time, the carmaker has managed to garner a huge market share in the US luxury car market, a share as large as 8 percent (Source)
