Urban Households Earn 32% More Than Rural Ones, But Spend Only 18% More

That is some easy stat to digest – we spotted this stat today, that urban households in the US make 32 percent more income than rural households, but when it comes to the spending numbers, they only spend 18 percent more. (Source)

The other number that we found a little surprising from that report was that some 92% of households are considered urban by the Labor Department – that seemed a little too high.

India E-Commerce Statistics: 80 Percent Of Total Sales Is Just Travel

Tickets, basically. This was not a surprising stat – we always kind of knew that tickets and travel is a big component of e-commerce in India – but the percentage – 80 percent – came as a shocker of sorts. We spotted this stat today, that the Indian E-Commerce market is a total 10 billion dollars a year (no, we do not want to compare it to what TaoBao.com sold in one day in China) – and a whopping 80 percent of that is just travel related – flight, train and bus tickets basically. (Source)

How do we digest this stat? we have written about this before – it is easier to identify painkillers in developing markets than in developed ones.

Android Statistics: 750 Million Android Devices On The Planet Now

We had been living with these two numbers in mind for a while now – half-a-billion Android devices on the planet, and half-a-billion iOS devices. Well, we need to most definitely change one of those – and this new number comes from Larry Page, Google CEO. This is what we spotted: there have been 750 Million Android activations so far – that is a huge jump, from September when we heard that half-a-billion number. Larry Page used this stat in his announcement of Sundar taking over the Android group from Andy Rubin:

“The pace of innovation has never been greater, and Android is the most used mobile operating system in the world: we have a global partnership of over 60 manufacturers; more than 750 million devices have been activated globally; and 25 billion apps have now been downloaded from Google Play. ” (Source) – all solid numbers there.

The one number that is not mentioned there but we kind of know – is the number of apps on the Google Play store, it is more than a million now, and is slightly ahead of iOS there as well.

Meet Our Sponsor: Get to Know Domo

(This is a guest post from our sponsor, Domo)

“I Have Data, But What Does It Mean?”

Data. It’s everything to every business professional out there.

But if you are like most execs, your data is buried under disparate logins, emails, spreadsheets and unrelated graphs. Before you can put the data to work, you have a significant amount of work just to get it—which is why you have IT or someone else get data for you.

When Josh James was longtime CEO at Omniture, he had data sources galore; but he didn’t have a way to bring them together to tell the full story of what was happening in the company. Business intelligence was cumbersome, time consuming and outdated. He wanted a dashboard that reported in real time and connected all of the data sources in a single place where the numbers could really talk.

Haven’t seen one of those lying around recently? Neither did we. Until now.

Josh James had the idea to create the most robust, accessible data-reporting solution for CEOs and non-IT professionals that the market has ever seen. The result is a reporting dashboard that makes the data make sense. We call it Domo.

Domo is redefining business intelligence with a platform built to display every department’s stats from any data source—Eloqua, Salesforce, Adobe Site Catalyst, QuickBooks, Volusion, you name it—in a customizable, plug-and-play dashboard with real-time updates. You can even put a monetary value to the opportunities created and the time you have saved from not running reports.

Domo’s executive management platform gives you all of your business data, in one place, in real time, and on any device. After you plug in all of your data sources, you can immediately see correlations such as those between social media and web traffic, the impact of HR initiatives on sales numbers, and the financial results of specific marketing campaigns. It’s all there—every stat you want to see from every part of the company in its purest form. Now that’s what we call agile business intelligence.

Suddenly, the numbers start making sense. And so does Domo.
