Kindle Fire Statistics: Only 700,000 Fires Shipped In Q1 2012

Well this has to be bad news for Amazon – which still calls the Kindle “World’s Bestselling E-Reader” – we spotted this today:

“According to data from IDC, Amazon only shipped — that’s shipped, not sold — 696,000 Kindle Fires last quarter. That’s a paltry 4% of the market, and it’s a big drop from the quarter before when Amazon had 16.8% of the market, shipping 4.7 million Kindle Fires.

Well, there are multiple ways to digest this fact – people might be waiting for a better, second version. Reported issues on the device. Lack of a huge ecosystem etc. But facts are facts, and Amazon has work to do.
