Will YCombinator Go Global?

It is a well known fact that working in the US for a foreign national is a nightmare, from an immigration/visa standpoint. It is also widely acknowledged, that there are different sets of opportunities in emerging countries (See: From Mary Meeker’s Year-End Internet Trends: The Anomaly Called India), and the knowledge that the YC ecosystem could bring in would be immensely valuable in many of these places, particularly since many painkillers can still be identified in these markets.

As we had written before, you could basically have a 3 column matrix, with where you are located, your target market, and whether it is a vitamin or a painkiller. You will end up with something like this:

Twitter – Location: Developed, Target: Global, Type: Vitamin turning into Painkiller
RedBus – Location: Developing, Target: Developing, Type: Painkiller
CucumberTown – Location: Developing, Target: Global, Type: Vitamin
Foursquare – Location: Developed, Target: Developed, Type: Vitamin

There could be execution models where YC can bring the same founder/concept filtering expertise to these emerging markets. Will YCombinator Go Global?
